Volunteers of MER-C For Mentawai Are Missing On The Indian Ocean

Four volunteers of Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) for Mentawai are missing on the Indian Ocean. The boat they are sailing with was damaged on the engine.

Up until today, Mer-C spokesperson Joserizal Jurnalis said, the cast-away volunteers cannot be contacted.

Mer-C has requested help for the search and rescue mission. "We've called on the SAR team to help find them," said Joserizal. The men aground include Mustafa, Robby, Fathi and a medical officer named Kamal Putra.

Volunteers participating in the relief mission in Mentawai are dealt with difficult fields and limited equipments. High sea waves are also added to the list of obstacles.

Earlier, five volunteers were saved by the rescue team on October 30, 2010, during a ship accident near the Mentawai Islands.

In addition, 26 other volunteers, including two reporters of antv, were said as missing during their way to Mentawai Regency, West Sumatra. Fortunately, the rescue team found them alive.
